Before turning to writing, Rachel Amphlett played guitar in bands, worked as a TV and film extra, dabbled in radio as a presenter and freelance producer for the BBC, and worked in publishing as a sub-editor and editorial assistant.

She now wields a pen instead of a plectrum and writes crime fiction and spy novels, including the Dan Taylor espionage novels and the Detective Kay Hunter series.

Amphlett has done a great job of making Detective Kay a person who I can clearly visualize. I love seeing her do her job and fighting injustice! Although if I had one gripe it would be that her backstory is always a little lacking. We get more information this novel and I was very excited to dive deep into the detective’s mind. Unfortunately the backstory ended just as quickly as it was brought up. I enjoy the suspense there, but I wish we could get a few more nuggets out! I give this novel a 4.5/5 stars for the great writing and mystery, but needs a little more of the personal side of Kay.

Campbell is back again with her narration! I am glad to see that she has been brought on for each installment. I feel like she does a better job each time 🙂 I didn’t notice anything wonky with the audio so I’m giving it a 5/5 stars!
